Looks like 5 Seconds of Summer have some competition on the iTunes’ Top Album chart. Within thirty-seven minutes of releasing his debut EP, Shawn Mendes secured the number one spot on iTunes’ Top Album chart knocking 5SOS to third place.
Soon to be sixteen-year-old Shawn Mendes is a social media superstar. Posting six second covers on Vine, Shawn has gained just shy of three million followers on this social media site alone. Add Twitter and YouTube into the mix, and Shawn’s follower count reaches close to five million.
Toronto born Shawn Mendes has covered songs by Justin Bieber, Lana Del Rey and Ed Sheeran but is super excited to finally be able release his own music. Shawn was the youngest artist to debut in the Top 25 on the Billboard Top 100 Chart with his single “Life Of The Party”. With all the love and support Shawn is staying grounded. Shawn recently tweeted “I’m living my dream….and it’s because of you guys, thank you.”
The EP has four songs including his single “Life Of The Party”, and has a great acoustic-pop vibe. If you are a fan of Ed Sheeran, One Republic, or John Mayor, get ready to have Shawn Mendes’ EP on repeat.
Shawn is currently on tour with Austin Mahone, Fifth Harmony and The Vamps, and is making a stop in Canada August 13th at Toronto’s TD Echo Beach.
