One Direction and opening act 5 Seconds of Summer rocked the Rogers Centre two nights in a row! Performing to 48,000 fans each night, Toronto was a perfect first stop for the North American leg of the ‘Where We Are’ tour. The concertgoers were energetic, loud and ready for a night to remember and the boys of One Direction and 5SOS did not disappoint.
If you missed 5SOS and 1D at Toronto’s Rogers Centre August 1st and 2nd, don’t worry because The Magazine has the scoop on the sold out show.
Starting off the night was Luke Hemmings, Calum Hood, Ashton Irwin, and Michael Clifford, also known as the boys of 5 Seconds of Summer. With just under 4 million followers on Twitter, 5SOS could be the next big thing, and their performance proved it! Singing a mixture of covers and original songs, and a mixture of upbeat and slow songs, 5SOS was full of energy and had the whole crowd singing along.
These four Aussie boys even made sure to show their Canadian fans love by thanking them for being some of their nicest fans in the world, and for having the CN Tower…or what they call ‘The Canadian Tower.’
Included in 5SOS’ 10-song-set was their newest single Amnesia and a cover of The Romantics’ What I Like About You. 5 Seconds of Summer ended off their performance with their hit single She Looks So Perfect. They made a Canadian tribute in the song by changing the lyrics from “Hey-y-y-y” to “Eh-h-h-h.” It sure got the crowd going because the floor of the Roger’s Centre shook as fans sang and danced along!
Fans had a chance to calm down and compose themselves during the intermission between 5SOS and One Direction. Even though an hour long, the intermission went quick as fans danced along to The Macarena and did the wave!
The lights finally dimmed and it was time for Niall, Harry, Liam, Zayn and Louis to take the stage. The Rogers Centre soon became filled with screams as One Direction began singingMidnight Memories. Singing 19 songs, and 4 encore songs the members of One Direction made sure to preform on every inch of the gigantic stage throughout the night making sure each and every one of the 48,000 fans had a glimpse of the boys. Singing hits Kiss You, Live While We’re Young, What Makes You Beautiful, and Best Song Ever just to name a few, One Direction took a break from performing to interact with the fans.
Niall listed off this Top 3 favourite Canadian things; poutine, Michael Buble, and of course the fans. Harry made a very lucky girl’s night by having the whole stadium sing Happy Birthday to Athena. Harry even talked hockey, “Does anybody here like the Maple Leafs? …If any of you come to England, you’re going to stay at my casa!”
Overall, One Direction definitely gave fans young and old the performance of a lifetime. If you weren’t able to attend, don’t worry! Coming to theatres October 11th & 12th is One Direction: Where We Are – The Concert Film, which was shot in Milan.
5 Seconds of Summer fans don’t worry either; the boys will be playing at Toronto’s Molson Amphitheatre August 25th 2015. Tickets for the show go on sale August 8th 2014.
